BGP Information

BGP Informational Communities

Lit Fibre strips all external BGP communities on our border routers. If a peering partner unilaterally attempts to set communities on their prefix advertisements, we will strip these.

BGP MED

Lit Fibre strips all BGP MED values on our border routers. If a peering partner unilaterally attempts to set MED on their prefix advertisements, we will remove these. If you require a special use case for MED, please reach out to us using [email protected] and we would be happy to discuss additional options.

BGP Well-known Communities

Lit Fibre does not implement well-known BGP communities as defined by the IETF as we are not currently a transit peer. If this changes in the future, we will update our policy at that time.

BGP Blackhole Communities

Lit Fibre currently does not currently support Blackhole Communities. If this changes in the future, we will update our policy at that time

BGP LocalPref Communities

If you require a special use case for LocalPref, please reach out to us using [email protected] and we would be happy to discuss additional options.

By default, Lit Fibre uses the following LocalPref values:

  • Bilateral BGP Peers via Private Interconnects – 140
  • Bilateral BGP Peers via Public Interconnects – 120
  • BGP Peers via a common Route Reflector – 100

BGP Action Communities

Lit Fibre currently does not support action-based communities as we are not currently a transit peer. If this changes in the future, we will update our policy at that time.
